E-Rate Update: ALL Districts Eligible for Mobile Learning Funding
GREAT news if you’re a K-12 school district or library! On July 23, the FCC re-energized the E-rate program, infusing $1 Billion in 2015, and $1 Billion in 2016 to modernize classrooms with WiFi. All districts are eligible for Internal Connections [WiFi, switches] to help students prepare to compete in the global economy. While you may not have every received funding in the past, now ALL districts are qualified to receive funding! Districts at 20%, 40% and 70% ARE finally eligible for vital E-rate funds to modernize their networks.
Here’s an article from the Washington Post with details about how, “The FCC is overhauling how it subsidizes WiFi for schools and libraries“. In addition, more details on the revamped plan can be found on our partner, Extreme Networks’ site here.
Funding Allocation Formula for School Districts
(Enrollment) x $150 x (discount %) = total amount $ available for 5 yr period.
Example—5,000 (Student enrollment) X $150 X 70% (Discount Rate) = $525,000 for
2015-2019. Not per year, but total E-Rate support available for this school district.
